Social Network

Mixed-Age Kindergarten (Ages 2–6)

Our mixed-age kindergarten includes Playgroup, Nursery, and Kindergarten.

Children are welcomed into a warm, nurturing space that feels like home.

Younger children learn by observing older peers, who naturally guide and care.

Mixed ages foster empathy, confidence, and ease the transition to primary school.

Rhythm Repetition Reverence

Rhythm: Predictable daily and weekly rhythms—like circle time, meals, and seasonal cooking—bring security and connection.

Repetition: Repeating songs, stories, and activities helps children absorb deeply and grow in confidence.

Reverence: Simple gestures like lighting a lamp or giving thanks nurture respect and wonder for life.

Together, the 3Rs create a nurturing foundation for healthy learning, growth, and joyful living.

Language & Numbers in Daily Life

Language grows naturally through stories, songs, verses, and everyday conversations.

Math develops from real-life activities like counting apples, folding napkins, and sorting toys.

Daily interactions nurture early skills in numeracy, sequencing, and problem-solving.

Formal reading and writing start in Grade 1 across Waldorf schools.

Festivals & Seasonal Celebrations

We celebrate all Indian festivals in a gentle and meaningful way.

Celebrations are calm, helping children connect without overwhelming noise.

Parents, teachers, and children join in cooking, decorating, and crafting together.

These shared moments build community, gratitude, reverence, and joy throughout the year.

Parent Involvement

At Tulasi, parents play a key role in their child’s learning through active interest and participation.

We invite parents to join activities like cooking, festivals, farm visits, and parenting talks.

Parenting is a continuous journey of learning and growth.

When parents and children grow together, the whole family thrives.

Sustainability & Simplicity

We embrace simple, minimalistic living grounded in gentle care for nature.

Children learn by doing- using natural toys, conscious clothing, composting, reusing, repairing, choosing preloved, using eco-friendly toiletries and more.

These choices are both safe for us, our children & our planet.

We encourage families to bring these practices into their homes for children to practice every day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Waldorf Kindergarten?

Waldorf Kindergarten is based on the educational philosophy of Dr. Rudolf Steiner, developed in the early 1900s.

It nurtures the whole child—head, heart, and hands—through imaginative play, rhythm, and connection with nature.

The first Waldorf school was opened in Stuttgart, Germany, in 1919

Waldorf education is supported globally by organizations like AWSNA (Association of Waldorf Schools of North America) and IASWECE (International Association for Steiner/Waldorf Early Childhood Education).

The first Waldorf school in India was Sloka Waldorf School, Hyderabad founded in 1997.

Waldorf education is rooted in Anthroposophy, a spiritual science by Steiner that combines art, spirituality, and practical teaching to support holistic human development.

How is it different from other kindergartens?

Unlike conventional preschools that introduce early academics (reading & writing), Waldorf education focuses on ‘Free play’, outdoor play in nature, social-emotional growth, home chores as an experiential learning in the early years.

Formal reading and writing are introduced in Grade 1 (primary school) across waldorf schools, when children are developmentally ready and eager to learn.

What age group do you admit?

We welcome children aged 2 to 6 years.

Do children learn ABCs and numbers?

Yes—but not in the formal academic sense during kindergarten. Early literacy and numeracy are woven into everyday experiences like songs, rhythm games, cooking, and storytelling. Formal instruction in reading, writing, and arithmetic begins in Grade 1, once the child's developmental readiness is met.

How can we support the Waldorf approach at home?

Waldorf education is most effective when school and home work in harmony. Children thrive when their daily life—both at school and at home—follows a rhythm that supports their natural development.

Here are some essential ways to align home life with Waldorf values:

Sleep: Ensure early bedtime and sufficient rest (ideally before 8 PM). A well-rested child is calm, happy, and ready to engage.

Rhythm & Routine: Create predictable, peaceful daily routines that help your child feel secure and grounded.

Outdoor Play: Allow for plenty of movement based- unstructured outdoor play time in natural surroundings—rain or shine!

Non-Stimulating Environment: Avoid loud noises, flashing lights, and overly busy or fast-paced activities.

Love & Warmth: Offer a calm, caring presence. Children feel safe when surrounded by emotional warmth and consistency.

Nutrition: Provide wholesome, home-cooked meals that support healthy physical development.

No Screen Time: We strongly recommend no screens (TV, mobile, tablets, etc.) for young children. Real-life interaction, movement, and play are the best ways for them to learn.

Joining a Waldorf kindergarten is a commitment to a way of life.
We encourage families to join only if you are open to embracing these changes at home. Your involvement is key to your child’s well-being and growth.

Are parents involved in school life?

Yes! We value strong parent partnerships

Parents are invited to:

  • Attend seasonal festivals and events.
  • Join reading circle and parenting workshops.
  • Participate in craft days or class meeting.
  • Volunteer to cook, clean, create toys, drive us to farm visits, source materials and so on.
  • Joining a Waldorf kindergarten is a commitment to a way of life.
We encourage families to join only if you are open to embracing these changes at home. Your involvement is key to your child’s well-being and growth.
Do you follow Indian culture and festivals?

Absolutely! We celebrate a wide range of Indian festivals and seasonal traditions, such as Deepavali, Holi, Sankranti, Eid, Christmas  and more—always in a simple, child-centered way.

What does a typical day look like?

Each day follows a repetitive gentle rhythm, which includes:

Sand play/ Nature walk

Circle time with songs and movement

Fruit time

Free play indoors

Artistic activities (painting, beeswax modeling, crafts)

Storytelling and puppet plays

Why is rhythm important for children?

Consistent rhythms—daily, weekly, and seasonal—help children feel secure and grounded. It reduces anxiety, supports healthy habits, and creates space for deeper learning.

What kinds of toys and materials do you use?

We use natural, simple materials—like wood, wool, silk, and cotton. Open-ended toys (blocks, handmade dolls, scarves) encourage imagination and creativity, unlike electronic or plastic toys. Do visit http://www.mylittlebookshop.in to buy waldorf inspired toys.

Is this approach recognized by Indian boards?

Yes. Waldorf education is internationally recognized. In India, many Waldorf kindergartens prepare children to transition to CBSE, ICSE, IGCSE, NIOS, or Waldorf-based elementary schools, depending on the location and structure.

Will my child adjust to mainstream schooling later?

Waldorf children are adaptable, confident, and curious learners. They may need a brief transition period for formal academics, but they often excel in creativity, communication, and problem-solving in mainstream settings.
